The funeral for Lt Pat Maclagan will be held at 2-30pm on Thursday 16 February 2023 at St Mary’s Parish Church, Church St, Kintbury, Hungerford, RG17 9TR
One final push for the Burns lunch on Sunday 5th Feb at the Best Western Hilcroft Hotel Whitburn @ 1400hrs! 3 courses for under £20!!!!! You couldn’t get that anywhere else! Numbers will
be confirmed with the venue tomorrow (29th) afternoon so please let me know if you are attending. And amazing company too. This is an informal gathering so please don’t dress up! A lovely meal, catch up with like minded people, and NO DISHES! OMG, am in!! Lol My email address is available through the Regimental Office. Haggis or steak pie!
Our condolences to Gordon Nicholls’ wife, Dilys, family and friends on the sad news of his death yesterday. Gordon served in 1RS 1962 – 1985. Further details will be promulgated when known.
There will be no funeral as my dads wishes were that he has a pure cremation,
It is with much sadness that we share that Sgt Gordon Nicholls (Nick) passed away early today, 26 January 2023.
His loss will be deeply felt by his wife Dilys, daughters and grandchildren.
Sad to hear of the passing of Gordon .i worked with him in Sgts Mess. In ballykinler .absolute gent and a great boss .thoughts are with Dylis and the family .RIP .
Film – The Battle for Hill 112 – 1944
On 18 Mar 2023 The Dominion Cinema, Newbattle Terrace, Edinburgh will host the first showing in Scotland of the film The Battle for Hill 112. an action which took place in Normandy in 1944.. Further details can be found on a flyer that has been posted on the Events page.
It is with deep sadness that we report the death on 15 January 2023 of Lt William Patrick (Pat) Maclagan. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Pat served with 1RS 1948 – 1952. Further details will be promulgated when known.
Central Branch are holding a Burns lunch on Sunday afternoon 5th February at 1400hrs in the Best Western Hilcroft Hotel Whitburn. This is a 3 course lunch consisting of lentil soup, haggis and veg or steak pie and veg, crannachan. Tea/coffee. All for £18.50 per head. Payable on the day. If you would like to come along and join us, please contact Andy Kyle (or myself Liz Kyle) by close of play on Saturday 28th January. This is an informal lunch so no need to dress for the occassion. If you are free and would like to come along for some craic and a nice lunch then you will be more than welcome. Let’s see if we can start the year as we mean to go on. Look forward to seeing you on the day.
Mr George Edmondson’ 100th Birthday
We wish to congratulate Mr George Edmondson on his 100th Birthday today. George enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the 1st Battalion 1942 – 1945 including in the Burma campaign. He left the Army in 1947 to pursue a civilian career and start a family.
George, we salute your tremendous achievement of a long and prosperous life,, your service to the Regiment, and we send you our best wishes for a very Happy Birthday.
Colonel Francis Gibb CBE
A Memorial Service for Colonel Francis Gibb CBE will be held at 1100 on Friday 17 March 2023 at the Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh and a reception afterwards at The Royal Scots Club, 29 – 31 Abercromby Place, Edinburgh.
