Royal Scots Benevolence does not usually give money retrospectively but this was an exception. Sadly Joe, an Old Royal, had passed away and worse, in the midst of their bereavement, his distraught family were told the funeral had to be paid for upfront. Their only option was to max out their credit card.

Royal Scots Benevolence stepped in with an immediate grant of £500 and arranged an equal donation from ABF The Soldiers Charity. Joe’s widow Isobel has given us permission to reproduce her letter here: Thank you “I am writing this short note to express my thanks (and my family’s thanks also) for the £500 donated towards the funeral costs of my husband (Joe “Wahid Wahid” Shaw). “He was a loyal Royal Scot for 24 years, NRPS at 2/52 Lowland Volunteers for 10 years and a Driver/Storeman for 5 years. Also life was “The Royal Scots” – he lived and breathed “Army” most of his life. “His passing has been a great shock to all our family and we miss him so much! He would have been so proud at the turnout at his funeral. “God bless you all at Royal Scots Benevolence. You will be in our prayers for everything you’ve done.”
