Today, Armed Forces Day, is also the anniversary of the death of my Uncle Lance Sergeant James Henry Sherry (born 24/3/1916) killed in action whilst serving with the North West Europe Allied Expeditionary Force (8th Battalion The Royal Scots – The Royal Regiment) buried at Saint Manvieu War Cemetery, Basse-Normandy. He was a musician who played the drums, piano and accordion. My mum was only 8 when he was killed but she still speaks of the hero that was her big brother. God bless you all today.
I am trying to track down any information on my great grandfather who served under the 7/9th royal scots and then got pulled across to 1st royal scots as he served in Burma and his brother George Thomas Smith Scot was a WO my great grandfathers name is Joseph John Smith Scott who was born 1915 died 1982
his medals where lost as my grandad was wee and put it down a siver (drain) we didn’t know his army service number as no one asked nor found out and my great grandad never replaced it nor wrote down what medeals he lost
