Sgt David Edgar

In Soldier's Stories by Jim Anderson

David Edgar was the uncle of Ann McGinty.

David Edgar was born in 1916 in the village of Stoneyburn,in West Lothian, he was a miner but joined up as soon as war was declared. He served with 8th Btn Royal Scots, reached the rank of SGT, he was involved in the Normandy Landings, was injured and spent time in a Brussels Hospital, then returned to active service.

He gwas married during the war and it was his wife Ella Edgar, who made up this album which the photos etc are from. After the war he and his wife settled in Addiewell, he never spoke much about his army days, we know that two of his best friends were killed beside him the day that he was injured.

He was asked to lay the poppy wreath on remembrance Sunday at the new war memorial because by then he was the oldest serving soldier from that area. he died 15th March 2001.
