The award of Pte Hugh McIver’s VC will be commemorated in Linwood on Thursday 23rd August 2018, exactly one hundred years after the heroic action for which he was awarded his VC. His citation is contained in Pontius Pilate’s Bodyguard Volume 1 on page 413 for those who wish to read it. RS Association participation in the commemoration is being coordinated by Colonel (Retired) Martin Gibson.
The Commemoration will take place at Linwood Community Centre and Library 15 Bridge Street, Linwood, Paisley PA3 3DB.
The outline for the commemoration is as follows:
1030 Those taking part assemble; the area is disability friendly, and in case of inclement weather there is cover for up to 180 attendees.
1035 The Royal Scots Standard Party, Legion Scotland Standard Party (to be requested), Royal Regiment of Scotland piper, The Royal Scots Association pipers (to be requested), The Royal Scots Regimental Association representative party assemble, Officer from The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
1040 Local school musicians/ choir assemble.
1045 Community Council and other guests assemble – including councilors and local MSP, clergy
1050 Provost arrives
1100 Commemorative Event commences
1130 Event ends
1145 Civic hospitality in Community Centre eg coffee/ tea and scones
1215 Opportunity for The Royal Scots Association representative party to visit Paisley Old Comrades Association Club for lunch. (TBC)
