Lt McGregor VC commemoration

             Lt McGregor VC commemoration Mon 22 Oct 18.


The commemoration will take place at George Heriots School at Lauriston Place.

The timing are still to be confirmed but it is likely to take place between 1400 – 1600 hours.

The Lord Provost of Edinburgh is going to unveil the stone and the outline of events is as follows:

  • 1400-1425 – Gather at the school for a cup of tea and biscuit
  • 1425-1430 – Move to the school chapel for short service
  • 1430-1510 – Church service – 1430-1510
  • 1510-1515 – Form up outside the main entrance
  • 1515-1520 – March down Heriot Place to the corner where it meets Lauriston Place; this is where the stone will be unveiled
  • 1520-1530 – Unveiling:
    • Introductory remarks
    • Speech by the Lord Provost
    • Laying of Regimental wreath; Wreath laid by Lt Col Jim Bain MBE (Ex RS, now SCOTS) CO of the school CCF
  • 1530-1535 – March back to forming up point and dismiss


  • Rehearsals TBC
  • RS Association  will provide a Standard Party (3) + one Parade Marshall
  • A parking slot has been booked for the standard Party inside the school grounds (VRN etc will be needed at a later date)
  • The school chapel is small so we are limited to an Association contingent of 24 in addition to the Standard Party and Parade Marshal.
  • Those wishing to attend  are required to give their details to the Regimental Office before Mon 1st October for security entrance to the school..
