Well, if you fancy a wee trip down memory lane, or just want to be in the company of those who think like you, then why not pop along to The Hilcroft Hotel Whitburn Sunday 3rd April at 14.30hrs!!!! You will be made more than welcome. Bring the wife too and treat her to dinner. See you then

  4. So very sad to hear of the sudden death of Colin Caverhill. I have many happy memories of his presence in a very successful Regimental golf team. A fine competitor and great fun to be with. RIP

  5. So sorry Danny, just read the news. A great loss to you and family and to those who knew Jean.

  6. It is with great sadness that we report the death on Sunday 27th March 2022 of Colin Caverhill. Colin was commissioned in 1963 and commanded 2nd Battalion 52nd Lowland Volunteers from 1988 to 1990. His final Regimental activity was to attend the Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph on 14th November 2021. Our thoughts are with his daughters, Lucy, Charlotte, Sarah and Katie, and his wider family and friends. Details of the funeral arrangements will be promulgated when known.

    1. Very sad. A true gentleman and friend and loving family.

    2. Was sorry to hear that Col Colin has passed away.
Over the last 5 or 6 years we did see each other on Southern Branch events and managed
to take a few photos of him with the guys.
A lovely man who will be missed by the Southern Branch Members.
My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

    3. Sorry to hear about Colin Caverhill passing. Has many a good round of golf with him. An absolute gentleman. My condolences to his family.

  7. Regimental Day 28th March
The following message has been sent to HRH The Princess Royal to mark Regimental Day.
“The Trustees of the Royal Scots Regimental Trust, the President, the Chairman and
all members of the Royal Scots Regimental Association send their greetings and best wishes
to Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal
on the occasion of the 389th anniversary of the formation of The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment)”

    1. Dear Danny Me and Rab were so shocked and saddened to see that Jean had passed away she was the first person that helped me on my way with the Royals when I arrived in Germany those many years ago. Take care Danny.

  8. One for the oldies, Can anyone tell me whilst we were doing AMF from Tidworth when “B” Company did our winter warfare training in Norway at The Fossli Hotel and trained on the Hardanger Glacier AND what was the name of the Norwegian Officer that assisted us in training (he was a WWII vet).
    Cheers

    1. Eric
I thought we were at Mofel camp it was tented , think the guy was Olav.

      1. Yes, A Coy was in Mjolfell. I was pleased to be OC A Coy at the time and have a sketch done by one of our Norwegian Instructors showing us langlaufing among the pines. We did a 10k on skis and I think all received a medal for completing the course! That was Feb 1971.

    2. Hi Eric, I remember it well as he also helped train us in A Coy.
His name escapes me, but I believe he was involved in the defensive op at the “Kirkadora” (Church Door) where a pl of Norwegian Soldiers held off a Nazi Bn for about 4 weeks.
He also had to cut off 4 of his own toes after getting frostbite when hiding from the Germans. Just can’t remember his name dammit

      1. Jimmy
I just remember him as a quite, kind of studious man who we all listened to jaws dropping at what events he described. From the panorama viewing window at Fossli looking out over the valley he would point out locations of ambushes / contacts etc etc some good some not so good. It really was a memorable experience and one I guess as we get older we realise how lucky we were. Hope you and yours are staying healthy Jimmy – see you on the 29th.

        1. Eric,
You are absolutely correct. I think Dave is right. Captain Olaf.
A Coy were in Finse when B Coy were in Fossli,.
You are probably aware that Fossli is very close to Telemark where the famous raid was carried out.
I am also looking forward to catching up on the 29th April.
Please give my best to the family.
          Take care.

    3. Yet again went up to castle with grandsons to the royal Scots museum was closed again asked why the staff had no information why dose anyone know why

      1. Willie,

The Museum is still closed to the public due to a health and safety issue with the Museum’s wooden floating floor caused by water coming in, investigations are still ongoing.

What staff did you speak to?
I take it that you did not pop into the Museum Office in the Old Provost Marshall House?

I could have shown you round the parts of the Museum that are still accessible, my details from the website are below.

        Kind Regards

        Tom

        1. Folks. I have been talking with Historic Scotland about the museum. They were working on the drawbridge up until 4th or 5th of March and were hoping to get in to do repairs required to the flooring in the Museum. on Monday , 7th. As I haven’t spoken to them since 21st of February I am not sure if any work has started.

          Regards.

          Rab Dickson.
