  1. Scotland’s Census – 20 March 2022
    Veterans’ Question

Scotland’s Census Day has been set for Sunday 20th March 2022. Each household will receive a letter containing information on completing the Census.

For the first time, a question on military service will be included. The analysis of the statistical data gathered will assist in the shaping and delivery of services by national and local government, statutory services, and charities.

If you have completed any military service, Regular, Reserve or National Service, please answer the veterans’ question accurately. The data obtained will assist the appropriate organisations holding national and local government to account for their commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.

You cannot be identified in the statistics published from the Census and all personal information provided is protected by law.

  2. Hi all, I hope you are all safe and well?

I am just playing catch up with what has been happening? Sadly there is now no link to view older guestbook comments?

Please correct me if I am wrong (which is often), but I also thought there was also a “search” facility available so I could find people on the guestbook?

Can these be brought back please?

    Thanks for everything you do.

Take care and stay safe all

  3. Guys,
as many of you know, I am now at the Royal Hospital Chelsea which, with Danny Dempsey, makes two Royals here now. While the place is very much branded RHC, we are allowed to wear our Regimental stable belts – which is where I am having a problem! Many of you also know of my racing-snake figure which will require two belts be made into one. Now RS stable belts are like hen’s teeth and difficult to source and rather than use up new belts which would be better placed elsewhere, I wonder if any guys have a reasonable old belt they will never wear again (they all shrink in the dark drawers they are kept in). If you have get in touch, I am happy to pay postage to Chelsea and a reasonable sum for the belt.
Thanks for reading this far, my fingers are crossed for a good response!

P.s. it is really strange wearing the cap badge on the front of the cap instead of its right place over the left ear!! 🙂

  4. Royal Scots Regimental family.

I apologise in advance if this post is a bit long but I’m sure you’ll agree that there’s no quick way to put down the information I need to without the danger of missing some important details necessary to explain the following to you all.

A lot of you will know, some won’t, I started a crowdfunding campaign to get an old Royal Scot ( WALTER STEWART) a headstone. Walter died in 2013.

Every year around remembrance week I go around the cemeteries of Prestonpans and Musselburgh putting crosses on all the Royals Scots buried there. I always came to Walters and got disappointed that he didn’t, yet after 8 years had a final memorial to a life well lived.

    NOT ON MY WATCH.

I don’t, and won’t go into why this was only to say “the family wasn’t in a position too”.

It took me all this time to try and locate the deeds to his plot, which I finally did through a family member as I couldn’t get the headstone erected without them.

Deeds located and crowdfunding started. Within the first two days of it going live on just giving I managed to raise just £1 odds under £2500.

However. I had to cap it there as it was in danger of getting out of control. That was more than enough to get Walter a decent size headstone.

Everyone that donated, or not, seen it in black and white either through updates by myself on social media , going to just giving, or by text messages from myself the progress made, and how the money was spent.

I’m glad to say that Walters headstone will be erected soon and is looking awesome. Truly befitting for an old soldier.

This is only a sample not the final product.

With the cash left over after the headstone was paid for , thanks to Mr Tommy Douglas for reminding me that I could get a plaque erected at the memorial garden at Glencourse, I contacted Maj Ian Johnstone who is in the process of organising that now.

Big thank you to Maj Stu Marshall who got me the information I needed with regards to Walters rank and service during his 12 years with the Royals. Information needed for his plaque.

Lastly. The rest of the money (£251) was donated to the Royal Scots benevolence trust. Just what Walter would have wanted. He didn’t just raise a few pounds whilst he was alive but managed to still donate in death.

This was all made clear during the crowdfunding campaign what would happen if there was a surplus of money left.

Thank you to all Royal Scots veterans, your families and friends who all contributed to getting this done because without you it wouldn’t have happened.

Apologies to you guys who wanted to donate but couldn’t due to the cap being put on .

Walter will now be remembered and will have a fitting memorial for his family and friends to visit.

    Lest we forget.

    UTR.

    1. Look forward to joining all attendees been a long time.

  6. Ex Royal Scot.

You’re obviously not on social media as there’s been constant updates since I started the crowdfunding campaign.

The first two days of starting the just giving page , thanks to the donations from ex Royal Scots, family and friends, the fund raised £2498. I commissioned a headstone that reads as follows..

Top left of the stone is engraved with the badge of the ARMY CADETS BADGE which Walter played a huge part in during his time there. In the centre is his photo with him with his RS blazer, regimental tie and Glengarry.
Top right is engraved with the ROYAL SCOTS BADGE with NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT UNDER IT.

    The inscription reads..

    IN REMEMBRANCE OF WALTER STEWART.
LOVING FATHER GRANDFATHER GREAT GRANDFATHER BROTHER AND FRIEND.

ONCE A ROYAL SCOT ALWAYS A ROYAL SCOT.

I’ve contacted Ian Johnstone regarding a plaque that will go up at the garden of remembrance at the Glencourse gates.

It will read.. CPL WALTER MORRISON STEWART.

    1RS 1957-1969

    B:1939-D:2013

There’s £250 left which will be donated to the Royal Scots benevolence trust.

Once the council erect the headstone I’ll take photo’s and then post for all to see.

I was waiting for the plaque and donations to the benevolence trust before I posted anything as I was waiting on information from records regarding Walters service details whilst serving with the regiment.

Thanks again to all who contributed to ensure that an old Royal Scots soldier had a final memorial to a life well lived.

    UTR.
