  3. My Condolences to Carol & Family , so sorry to hear this news R. I. P . Mick .

  4. I am very sorry to have learned of the death of Mick Durkin BEM. He was good friend to many, and both displayed and demanded the highest standards of professionalism in the field. I first met him soon after I joined B Coy in Osnabruck in 1969, as an officer under instruction on a patrol of the Inner German Border conducted by the Recce Pl in which Mick was then a private soldier. Later, now a captain and Mick a sergeant, we served together in the Recce Pl on operations in what subsequently became known as the COP role, where he excelled in the field in a very challenging environment. We were together again in Ballykinler when he was CQMS C Coy and finally in Werl where he was RQMS. I also remember the warmth with which Carol and he welcomed me into their home one Christmas day in Ballykinler.

    1. My first intro to Mick Durkin was being directed to the Charlie Company Stores in Ballykinler being issued my Deployment “gear” by him and Pierre Lamont then Mick takes me into theCSM’s office Geordie Mullolland, still with Deployment gear in arms who promptly marched me I to the OC’s office to be welcomed by the OC Major Blythe with Mick and Geordie in the office Jungle Jim welcomed me to Charlie Company and if I had been issued with all my Deployment gear which Mick confirmed and confirmed that I had been posted to 8 Pl which Geordie confirmed and Jungle Jim saying ” see you tonight the company is deploying to Armagh”…. Armagh Bingo cards being sold and the numbers being broadcast on the net by Mick….. well what more can you say a legend

  5. It is with deepest sorrow that The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) marks the death of our Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Regiment is proud to have served her and it is an enduring honour and privilege to have done so. She was, and will continue to be, held in the highest esteem in the Regiment. Her unwavering commitment is the finest example for us all to follow. Our thoughts and prayers are with The Princess Royal, Royal Patron of the Regimental Association, and all members of The Royal Family and we share their grief as they mourn.
