Some of you will know Steve Kelly. He joined the battalion in the late 50s and was Pipe Sgt in Osnabrück in the late 60s when he emigrated to Canada to join the Canadian army. Pat Morecroft took over from him.
I’ve kept in touch with Steve over several decades and he and his wife Christeen attended our 350th anniversary in Edinburgh in 1983. I also met him about ten years ago when I visited friends on Vancouver Island.
I’ve just received news from my friend on Vancouver Island that the Canadian Chancellory of Honours has awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers to CWO Steve Kelly CD, for his long and distinguished service. Steve was Pipe Major, RSM and is now Quartermaster of the Pipes and Drums, working under his son Stephen, the current Pipe Major.
Steve, who is stationed in Patricia Bay, Vancouver Island has spent a lifetime playing and teaching pipers and this award is thoroughly deserved.
Well done Steve!
