Cpl R E Elcock VC MM Commemoration

Monday 15th October 2018 in Wolverhampton

The award of Corporal Roland Elcock’s VC will be commemorated in Wolverhampton on Monday 15th October 2018, exactly one hundred years after the heroic action for which he was awarded his VC.  His citation is contained in Pontius Pilate’s Bodyguard Volume 1 on page 414 for those who wish to read it.  RS Association participation in the commemoration is being coordinated by Colonel (Retired) James Finlay.

The details of the commemoration are still under discussion with the Wolverhampton City Council but it is hoped that the Royal Scots Association will be very well represented on the day.  The exact location will be decided shortly but it will take place at 11.00am within the City of Wolverhampton.  The commemoration will be led by the Mayor of Wolverhampton with the Lord Lieutenant.  Civic dignitaries and councillors will be present along with the local RBL Branch and other service and ex-service organisations.

The outline for the commemoration is as follows:

There will be a rehearsal for key personnel at 5.00 or 6.00pm on Sunday 14th October.

James Finlay will circulate further details as soon as they are known and this will include details of recommended hotels as well as those to avoid!

It would be very helpful if Association Members (via The Regimental Office) would let James Finlay know their intention to attend this important commemoration as soon as they are able to do so. Please e-mail admin@theroyalscots.co.uk or telephone 0131 557 0405 as soon as possible and certainly by no later than Tuesday 28th August 2018.

Further details will be circulated as soon as they become available.
